Adhering to Legal Frameworks and Policies
Ethics and Law
As I find my way as a teacher, I have taken it upon myself to become familiar with the various legal documents attached to the profession. The Teaching Quality Standards, of course, the Code of Professional Conduct for Alberta Teachers, documents from the Alberta Teachers Association etc. I recognize that the professional practice of a teacher is bound by standards of conduct expected of a caring, knowledgeable and reasonable adult entrusted with the custody, care or education of students. Beyond the higher structures, it is important to familiarize yourself with your school board and individual school's policies and procedures. Knowing the rules and the expectations of teachers from a legal standpoint will ensure that professional problems and issues are kept to a minimum.

The artifact that I have included here is an example of the expectation placed on us as teachers, police and vulnerable sector check. By engaging in practice consistent with policies and procedures established by the school authority I am being transparent and I know that I wouldn't be where I am if I refused.
